Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful town in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, surrounded by hills. Its name means “The city of light” or “City on the plain.” The town is overlooked by Piduruthalagala, the highest mountain in Sri Lanka, which adds to its beauty.

What makes Nuwara Eliya special is its cool weather. It’s the coolest place in Sri Lanka. In April, there are festivals like motor and horse racing that everyone looks forward to. The Mahagastotte and Radella Hill Climbs are exciting motor racing events. Apart from racing, Nuwara Eliya has a golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park, and you can go boating or fishing on Lake Gregory.

Nuwara Eliya is also close to Horton Plains National Park, where you can see unique animals, birds, and insects. One of the highlights there is World’s End, a stunning viewpoint where you can see far before the mist comes down.

The tea bushes in Nuwara Eliya produce some of the best orange pekoe tea in the world. Walking through a tea estate, you can also see the beautiful Lovers Leap waterfall, which is an amazing sight.
