Colombo
Colombo is a big city in Sri Lanka, and it’s the busiest one! It’s not just the commercial capital but also the largest city in the country. People come here for business and also for fun because it’s a popular place for tourists. Colombo sits on the western coast and includes Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, which is the official capital of the country, and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, known for its beautiful beaches.
The port in Colombo has been super important for trade for more than 2,000 years! There are lots of cool places to see in Colombo, like Galle Face Green, Viharamahadevi Park, Beira Lake, Colombo Racecourse, Planetarium, University of Colombo, Mount Lavinia Beach, Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Colombo Lotus Tower, and the National Museum. Each place offers something different and exciting for visitors.
Galle Face Green is a fun spot for tourists and locals to hang out. The Gangarama Temple is famous for its cool mix of different architectural styles. Viharamahadevi Park, once called Victoria Park, is the oldest and biggest park in Colombo, and it has a big statue of Lord Buddha.
Some new places to check out in Colombo include Independence Memorial Hall Square, Pettah Floating Market, and the Old Dutch Hospital. The World Trade Center tower and the Bank of Ceylon building are hard to miss in the city’s skyline. Before big buildings, the Old Parliament Building and the Old Colombo Lighthouse were important in the historic Fort district.
The Nelum Pokuna indoor auditorium and the Lotus Tower are newer additions that add to the beauty of Colombo. There’s always something exciting to see and do in this lively city!
